This course is designed for those Nuclear Medicine Technologists preparing to take the NMTCB PET examination. This 45-hour course serves as an excellent review and covers the Basic Science of Nuclear Medicine with special emphasis on PET-related topics. It meets the alternate eligibility requirements of the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) and provides the requisite number of hours in the following areas, as specified on the NMTCB website:
- 15 hours of Radiopharmacy
- 15 hours of Radiation Safety
- 15 hours of Nuclear Medicine Instrumentation and its associated Physics
Integrated into this course are presentations that cover all the Basic Science of Nuclear Medicine. These include Nuclear Medicine Physics, Radionuclide Generators, Radioisotope Production, Radiopharmaceuticals, PET Radiopharmaceuticals, NRC Regulations, Hot Lab Quality Control Procedures, Scintillation Detection, Gamma Camera design, Operation, and Quality Control, PET, SPECT, In Vivo Non-Imaging Procedures, Radionuclide Therapy, Internal Radiation Dosimetry, and related topics.It provides practicing Nuclear Medicine Technologists, Nuclear Medicine administrators, and representatives of industry the opportunity for a comprehensive review of the Basic Science of Nuclear Medicine.
