14th Annual
Basic Radioisotope Handling Course
For Nuclear Cardiologists

MARCH AND JUNE 2011

THERE ARE NO MORE BASIC RADIOISOTOPE HANDLING COURSES  SCHEDULED FOR 2010!

Course Information

This course is designed to meet the didactic basic science requirements for taking the Certification Board in Nuclear Cardiology Examination (CBNC Exam) and will be very helpful in preparing for the basic science parts of the Examination. In addition, for those states no longer requiring 200 hours of didactic lectures, it meets the 80-hour didactic lecture requirements for one to become an Authorized User of Radioisotopes in Humans and covers all the essential topics, as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 35. The very comprehensive PowerPoint lecture notes, multiple practice examinations, license application guide, video presentations, and review of essential parts of the Code of Federal Regulations prepare one for completing a license application as well as for operating a high-level practice in Nuclear Cardiology. Included are the following topics:

Radiation Physics and Instrumentation
Radiation Protection
Mathematics Pertaining to the use and Measurement of Radioactivity
Radiation Biology
Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry

At this point in time, we recommend that you take the 80-hour course if you plan to practice Nuclear Cardiology in a state governed by the NRC (AK, CT, DE, HI, ID, IN, MI, MO, MT, SD, VT, WV, WY, Washington, DC and Puerto Rico). In addition, we recommend it for most agreement states. The notable exceptions are New York and California, both of which still require the full 200 hours.

If you wish to know the regulations for a particular state, please contact Dr. Karesh, Course Director, at (773) 802-7617.

We are aware of your need to minimize time away from work. so our 80-hour course will run from a Sunday morning through the following Sunday afternoon. You will therefore miss only 5 working days to accumulate the 80 hours. Before leaving the course, each attendee will receive a certificate verifying completion of the 80-hour session.

This intensive review is accompanied by a very comprehensive course syllabus provided to each attendee. Included are detailed typeset handouts for each lecture topic, accompanied by extensive audiovisual material. All speakers continually update their lecture materials to reflect state-of-the-art knowledge. An integral part of the course includes mathematical problem solving. Questions are welcomed at any time during the course and periodic self-assessment examinations containing a total of almost 1,000 questions will be given during the course and especially after completion of each major topic.

2011 COURSE SCHEDULE

The Basic Radioisotope Handling Course will be offered 2 times during 2011.  The following chart indicates the dates that each course is being offered. All courses are 80 hours. If your state requires fewer hours, we can meet your needs. Please call Dr. Karesh at (773)802-7617 to discuss this option.
